| · General description: |
Cortijo Barranco Oscuro is located in La Contraviesa, a mountain range in La Alpujarra of Granada (Spain) between the Mediterranean Sea and Sierra Nevada, a historic zone of vineyards whose good properties for the elaboration of first-rate natural wines we have utilized to obtain true wines that express the land they proceed from. At the Cerro Las Monjas, the highest cultivated land in the zone (1368 meters of height), we have six hectares of vineyard planted since 1981 to 1996. At a very stony ground, productions hardly exceed a half kilo per vine. The singular microclimate of the zone permits developing a traditional cultivation totally proper for the environment. No herbicides, chemical fertilizers nor pesticides that they destroy the Nature's equilibrium and they decrease the quality of the grapes. We have another six hectares at the surroundings of the farm, planted since 1995 to 2000, all in trellis. These vineyards are at 1280 meters of height, the same as the Winery. The main varieties are Garnacha, Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc as red and Vigiriega, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier and Vermentino as white varieties. In these properties productions are bigger but up to 2 kilos per vine at the most. All tasks are managed by Manuel Valenzuela, so much at the vineyards like at the Winery, with the one and only motivation to not to adulterate the nature's genuine fruit. At the Winery they're not used aromatic yeasts and wines are not filtered, clarified, nor corrected with any of the great quantity of substances that there are on the market for Enology. The use of sulphur (SO2) is extremely limited so when the wines are ready to consumption they hardly contain any sulphites. The wines we produce are:
Blanco de Blancas Nobles. A mixture of the best white varieties (Vigiriega, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Viognier, Moscatel Morisco, Chardonnay, Vermentino and Albariño) with partial ageing in oak cask and stainless steel tank.
Brut Barranco Oscuro is a sparkling wine made with the autochthonous variety Vigiriega. We don't use sugar but the juice of the same grapes that they rest in the vineyards until December. It's aged 24 months in the "cava".
Tempranillo y más is a coupage of Tempranillo, Syrah and Garnacha with 11 months ageing in American and French oak casks.
Borgoñón Granate is a Pinot Noir varietal that achieves the best of this delicate variety. It's aged during 12 months in new casks of French oak selected from the best forests of France.
1368 is complexity made wine. It's produced with the grapes of the Cerro Las Monjas, a coupage of Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Tempranillo and Merlot aged during 15 months in casks of French oak. |
