San Sadurniño is located in an end of the region of Ferrolterra, to the North of the province of A Coruña. He limits with Narón and Neda by the West, with Valdoviño by the North, Moeche and As Somozas by the East and with A Capela and As Pontes de Garci'a Rodriguez by the South.
San Sadurniño is concello of interior, that lacks coast. The access next to the sea, nevertheless, is to few kilometers, about 12, in Valdoviño, that counts on one of the greatest and emblematic beaches of Galicia; there are several small rural highways that lead until there, the main one of which part of the proximities of the hermitage of Bethlehem, in the main body of the villa.
The municipality occupies an ample valley, formed in its average course by the Grande river do Xubia, and another one more Straits formed by the Castro river, affluent of the previous one, that limits with the heights of the mountain range of Forgoselo, towards the Southeastern. The highest points of the municipal term are in this mountain range, the tips of Racamonde (537 ms.) and Forgoselo (508 m.s), although is necessary to also emphasize the tip of San Vicente or Ferreira, in the parish of this name, in whose top is a carved anthropomorphic tomb on the rock, that it counts on a peculiar legend, one of the places to visit, from where it is possible to be seen in the clearest days to the city of Ferrol, the Atlantic in Valdoviño and practically all the region. This mountain range of Forgoselo is one of the places of Galicia where still the ancestral rite of the "olive blossom is made it give bestas".
Concello is divided in seven parishes: Santa Marina of Monte, Bardaos, You lick, Ferreira, Igrexafeita, Narahío and San Sadurniño, where is the capitalidad.
PLACES TO VISIT.
Convent of the Rosary.
The building is organized around claustro small, with seven arcs of average point to each side. The convent existed an orchard surrounding, of that conserves some trees next to the church.
The church of Our Lady of the Rosary.
The treatment of the church seems to be made in two phases. The interior, and judging by the lateral pillars that maintain to the vault and the lunetos, had to be begun in very simple baroque style being finished in its cover and altarpiece of the greater altar in a baroque one much more elaborated, of plates in the case of the facade, very of the style of Simón Rodriguez.
The part older than is conserved of the church dates from century XVI and cover with rib vault corresponds with the zone of the head, to which it is acceded through a pointed arc. This arc of access leans, like the nerves of the vault in columnitas leaned with románicos capitals (reaprovechados of the previous church) of zoomorfo, anthropomorphous subject, vegetal and geometric. Two of the columns with their corresponding capitals are hidden after the altarpiece.
Castle of Narahío.
It was constructed on alive rock, almost hung in the right margin of the Castro river, to about 300 meters of altitude on the level of the sea. Its figure is an irregular polygon of 12 sides, structure that comes formed by the land on which it is based.
Pazo gives Marquise.
Pazo, from where they exerted señorío and jurisdiction the Andrade, the Lemos and finally its descendants, the Marquesses of San Sadurniño, lost all its noble aspect. After the last reforms, at the beginning of century XX, they only stayed as memory two shields in the corners of the tower. They are crowned with marquesal crown. One of them shows the bar of the Andrade and roeles of Castro de Lemos. The other, three moons with balls, a kettle and two canes under three trees. |
