· General description:
Set in the very centre of the town of Santa Lucia, the Casa Rural is, in fact, made up of three, separate and fully equipped cottages or accommodation units: La Montañeta 1, La Montañeta 2, and La Montañeta 3, and only share an extensive garden covering two thousand square metres. They are the perfect choice for those who wish to combine peace and quiet with comfort, without renouncing all the comforts and typical services of an inland village of the island.

The cottage and the three separate accommodation units came out of refurbishing a hundred-year-old building that was used for many different purposes in the course of its life, from a drying shed for the tobacco grown in the area to a local Courthouse for the Justice of the Peace and as a support building for the crops that the owners of the building grew in the district.

The refurbishment left the original structure of the house in tact, divided into three structural units, each of which has been converted into one of these Country Cottages.

The building and its three accommodation units or cottages, has conserved all the charm of the traditional architecture of the island foothills, with solid stone walls finished with rural white-wash, ample doors and windows, making the interior light and airy; traditional Canary Island porch giving common access to all of them and a traditional pitched roof with heart wood frame and Canary Island wooden shingles.

At the same time, each of these accommodation units or cottages is fully equipped with all the services and comforts of a modern house, such as air conditioning, heating, glass ceramic hob, microwave oven, a complete range of appliances (toaster, liquidiser, juice squeezer, etc.)

The Casas Rurales La Montañeta 1, La Montañeta 2, and La Montañeta 3, each have a double bedroom (2 pax.), lounge dining room, kitchen and full bathroom with a shower cubicle. They can all be fitted with a supplementary sofa bed and cots for children.

The only difference between the three is that in La Montañeta 1 and La Montañeta 2, the bedroom is situated in a spacious and comfortable wooden loft, whereas in La Montañeta 3, all the rooms are on the same floor.
· Inside:
La Montañeta I

This cottage has a double bedroom with two single beds, situated in a cosy loft at the top of the house, with a heart wood pitched roof and large windows and doors, making it light and extremely cosy.

On the floor below the bedroom, there is a full bathroom with a shower cubicle and a spacious area for the dining room, the lounge and the kitchen.

La Montañeta II

Like la Montañeta 1, it has a double bedroom with two single beds, situated in a cosy loft at the top of the house, with a pitched, heart wood roof and generous windows and doors, making it both light and extremely cosy.

On the floor below the bedroom is a full bathroom, with shower cubicle, and a large area for the dining room, lounge and kitchen.

La Montañeta III

The cottage has a double bedroom with two single beds and differs from the cottages of La Monañeta I and La Montañeta II in that the bedroom and all the other rooms of the cottage are on the same floor, with a pitched wooden roof and generous windows and doors, making it light and extremely cosy.

Apart from the main bedroom, the cottage also has a full bathroom, with shower cubicle, and a large area for the lounge, dining room and kitchen.

Access to the cottages is through a refurbished porch, in line with the norms of traditional Canary Island architecture.

The access porch leads off a leisure area that is shared by the three Country Cottages; la Montañeta 1, 2, and 3, covering two thousand square metres.

The cottage has air conditioning, heating, glass ceramic hob, microwave oven and a complete range of appliances (toaster, liquidiser, juice squeezer, et.)

The cleaning service is included in the price, along with reception service and the hand-over of the keys on arrival and departure and staff are on hand to deal with any incident or to answer any enquiries guests may have.

· Location & Activities:
Their geographic location in the south east of the island of Gran Canaria, half way between Las Palmas and the holiday resorts of the south, make this a strategic enclave for those looking to enjoy the peace and quiet and the charm of the villages of the interior of the island, without having to give up all the leisure potential of the holiday resorts of the south and of the capital of the island, less than 40 km away.

The climate here is typical of the foothills of Gran Canaria, and of an altitude of 600 metres above sea level, with an average temperature from October to March of 18º centigrade, and from April to September of 28º centigrade.

The fact that it is set in the middle of one of the larges volcanic cauldrons of the islands - Caldera de Tirajana - and on one side of the Tirajana Ravine that divides it physically, makes the area one of great scenic interest, with impressive views and idyllic spots where the only sound you will hear will be the singing of the birds.

Apart from being one of the most important municipalities of the island of Gran Canaria, Santa Lucia is also the name of the borough capital.

The town of Santa Lucia is set in the very centre of the Tirajana Cauldron, one of the most impressive volcanic craters on Gran Canaria, in the south east of the island, in a strategic position on the main route to everywhere.

The town of Santa Lucía, with a population of 951 inhabitants, at an altitude of 680 metres above sea level and a warm climate all year round, has the typical flavour of the inland villages of the island of Gran Canaria, as it has maintained its traditional Canary Island architecture practically in tact. In short, it is the ideal place for those seeking to combine rest and welfare during their holidays.

In a radius of less than two kilometres, there are restaurants, museums, church, supermarket, shops, bank, cafés and bars.

Less than forty kilometres away, about twenty minutes by car, is the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the largest city in the Islands, with a population of almost half a million people, where we can find everything you would expect of a major European city, from large shopping areas, theatres, cinemas, museums, to beautiful beaches like Las Canteras.

Almost the same distance away are the beaches of the south of the island, where you can enjoy an average all-year-round temperature of 21º centigrade. You can go from near-zero temperatures in the high mountains to spectacular days out on the beach, in a distance of less than 40 km, just under 30 minutes by car.

A mere 15 km away, just over 15 minutes by car, is the town of Vecindario, the main shopping and leisure centre in the south of the island, with a wide range of leisure and shopping options, and Pozo Izquierdo beach, the venue for the World Windsurfing Championships.

For these reasons, any kind of outdoor activity is possible both in summer and in winter, from relaxing in the comfort of the cottage and the charms of the surroundings and local customs, to hiking, cycling or any other kind of sporting activity, as there is an incredibly varied range of possibilities from golf to horse-riding, windsurfing, surfing, kite surfing, diving, sports fishing or sea fishing, etc.

· Owner's comment:
TIRAJANA RURAL is the trade name under which several country cottages are managed in different areas of the borough of Santa Lucia, Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands.

Geographically, the Canary Islands are situated less than 250 km off the west coast of Africa, in the proximity of the Tropic of Cancer. They enjoy a tropical climate, with average temperatures of 18-20º centigrade all year round, with no radical seasonal variations and they are one of the main tourist destinations of Europe.

The island of Gran Canaria is known throughout the world as a genuine continent in miniature, because of the enormous diversity of climates and habitats that can be found here in a relatively small space. These are the result of its geographic situation close to the Tropic of Cancer, off the north west coast of Africa, and the influence of the Trade Winds.

With the services provided on our web site, you can immediately check the availability of our cottages in real time. You can also see an extensive photographic report on each of these and their surroundings, make a booking, pay and get confirmation of payment and booking, along with all the necessary documentation for getting to the meeting point, from where you will be taken to the cottage of your choice, all directly and without any kind of intermediaries.

All the country cottages that we run have all the necessary administrative permits and meet each and every one of the requisites of the demanding Canary Island regulations for rural tourism included in the Canary Island Government Ministry of Tourism and Transport Decree 18/1998 of March 5, establishing the Regulations and planning for rural tourism accommodation.

All the cottages that we manage are old, rural buildings with all the structure and features of the traditional Canary Island architecture of the inland and foothills areas of the island. They have all been carefully refurbished with a combination of tradition and maximum comfort for our guests to provide a high-quality service.

If there is a distinguishing feature of our cottages, it is their settings, in the area of the town of Santa Lucia and the surrounding area, that have conserved all the charms of the foothills boroughs of the south of the island, and where the passage of time has not meant the sacrifice of an environment that conserves all the beauty and tradition of yesteryear.

We currently have four country cottages - independent accommodation units to be used exclusively by guests - within the town of Santa Lucia - Casa Rural la Montañeta 1, Casa Rural la Montañeta 2, and Casa Rural la Montañeta 3- and a cottage in the district of Ingenio, within the borough of Santa Lucía -Casa Rural Cercado de Don Paco- that will be available in July 2003, all of which comply with the same standards of quality.
