In Villa Lía lies the spirit of the small historical towns (“Pequeños Poblados Históricos”), small towns born as a result of the farming boom in the 1900s.
The deployment of railroads, the “modern” transport for the new harvests gave birth to a series of new towns built around a train station, a central square and other landmarks like the school, an old catholic chapel, the municipality office and the cooperative premises.
The Friendly locals gather in the almacenes de ramos generales, a store where they get anything they need, from groceries to an update on the pueblo’s social life.
The tranquility and silence come alive in Villa Lía in the guided town tours, where you will learn the secret local stories hidden in every corner of the village. You could walk in the old almacenes de ramos generales for a drink, tour the town in a bicycle or ride a real gaucho horse.
We also have some interesting learning alternatives: local handicrafts workshops (leather, ropes, silver, textiles), folk dancing, and local cuisine lessons. Guided tour by a local: visit the train station, the Almacenes de Ramos Generales, the Hernandez park, the Chapel and a traditional sausage & ham manufacturing plant. Additional: visit to Faces of the Pampa museum (museum fees are not included). Guided tours to San Antonio de Areco: visit the best crafters ateliers, the San Antonio de Padua church, the main park, the old bridge over the Areco river and the impressive "Ricardo Güiraldes" museum (Gaucho culture).
Spanish for foreigners: learn Spanish on a traditional place. Textile workshops: learn how to ebb and make textiles the traditional way (using the technique of different South American indigenous cultures).
Local Handicraft workshops: silver (plateria) and leather (sogueria).
Folk dances: Enjoy and experience the sense of dancing the traditional rhythms of the pampas. In just 2 hours you will be able to learn the basic moves of the gato, samba, ranchera, chacarera, etc. Traditional cuisine workshops: learn how to cook the typical gaucho dishes coached by a local expert. Taste your own delicious natural food in the charming atmosphere of our house. Archery: learn this ancient hunting and war faring technique now become an extreme sport and relaxation activity. All levels and ages. Photo safari |

Back to the simple things, to the time of beautiful sunsets, singing birds and smell of wild flowers. Live a unique experience in Villa Lía, a typical ‘pueblo’, featuring all the attractions of the pampas rural towns: charming people, an old chapel, a lazy train station and its shady central park.
Shop, have a drink or share the gossip at the town’s ‘Almacenes de Ramos Generales’, an ancestor of today’s malls, where the locals gather for shopping (anything from groceries to gifts) and drinking. |
