· General description:
Welcome to Canela, a beatiful house in Esquel, a small city with a very Patagonian flavor.

Canela has 3 fabulous bedrooms on the low floor, all with central heating, and another one on the first floor with views to the mountain and 4 people capacity.

Starting every day at five PM, at Canela we serve our most cherished speciality: inexhaustible teapots of fine quality tea will help you enjoy Veronica’s homely scones, muffins, brownies, lemon cheese pies, raspberry cakes and many other European and American delicacies.

You’ll relax in Canela’s warm environment, gazing at the mountains while having your tea, with music playing softly in the background. Meanwhile, you can plan next day’s activities (or maybe arrange a visit to one of Esquel’s pubs later at night). You’ll feel at home with us. Complementing our personal service, many items of the decoration at our place (and most of Jorge’s striking framed photographs -see This month’s photograph) are strongly related with our life in Patagonia and other places in Argentina. Don’t miss Canela if you are traveling down south.
· Inside:
The design and decoration of our ample bedrooms make our guests feel at home.

The sunlight, filtering among the pine trees that border Villa Ayelén, pours in through Canela’s double-pane windows. The wooden beams and waxed floors of the bedrooms give our place that special smell that blends so well with the aroma of Veronica’s baking for tea time.

Two bedrooms can be joined as a big apartment for four to five guests, with two bathrooms and individual access from the outside.

We have good beds, excellent mattresses and lovely eiderdowns for you to rest well after an intensive day at the ski tracks, or maybe after fishing for trout at Esquel’s beautiful rivers and lakes. Also, to have a nice siesta just before boarding the Trochita old steam-engine railway or visiting the Mill Museum at nearby Trevelin, where you may find some tracks of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid's passage through Patagonia.

· Location & Activities:
Esquel is a different place. A small city with a very Patagonian flavor, that gradually opens itself up to tourism. Everything is still authentic here, setting Esquel apart from the more developed towns of northern Cordillera. It is embedded in a rough lanscape, where the steppe merges with the forest, in the land of the maitén trees and the calafate bush. To the east, close to town, you will find the rocky mountainsides that lead to La Hoya, our family-oriented ski center. The imposing, red Nahuel Pan of almost 7.000 feet encloses Esquel towards the south. And to the west, opens the marvellous farmland of the 16 de Octubre valley and the nearby Los Alerces National Park, a wonder of nature. Further, the road to Chile, where you can take the beautiful Carretera Austral.

Here the history and traditions of the Mapuche and Tehuelche peoples mingle with the saga of the Welsh settlers and the romance of the American outlaws, along with the struggle of the pioneer sheep farmers that arrived much before civilization reached the land. Adding the remarkable narrow-gauge steam railway doing its tourist excursion through the steppe, and the man-museum opened by the Benetton family at their huge estancia in Leleque, plus the pristine beauty of the national park with its crystalline lakes and many thousands-year old alerce trees, we get a full menu of attractions. Esquel surely deserves your visit.

· Owner's comment:
Once in Esquel, reaching Canela is easy: you have to cross the town and, after traveling southwest 800 meters (half a mile) on the road to Trevelin, turn right into Villa Ayelén on Los Notros pine-bordered street. Two and a half blocks away, you will see Canela's sign on your left.
